This mural was commissioned to include Germans who were not Nazi’s. Depicted are: Marlene Dietrich, Albert Einstein, Kurt Weil, George Grosz, Bruno Taut, Kurt Tucholsky, and Max Schmelling. When asked about the inclusion of Joe Lewis, Kanovitz quipped,

“I couldn’t imagine depicting Max Schmelling without also painting my boyhood hero The Brown Bomber”.
